How Should Buffett Spend Berkshire Hathaway’s $45 Billion?
Published by admin May 5th, 2006 in investing, business. Tags: No Tags.As CNNMoney notes, The Wall Street Journal reported that Wall Street is abuzz with anticipation of a big announcement from the 75-year-old investment guru at the upcoming annual shareholders meeting in Omaha.
Berkshire has built up a cash pile of $45 billion and Buffett has said more than once that he wants to spend billions of dollars in the energy and utilities sectors, the paper said.
Energy and utilities? I’m starting to fall asleep just thinking about that. Warren, you’re 75 years old and not getting any younger. Have some fun while you still can. We’ll even help you figure out the right way to spend some of those billions. Below we offer up a suggestion and if you like this one, we’d be happy to share some others – for a small fee of course.
Buy Playboy Enterprises (PLA). This one is a no brainer. The stock was down 15% yesterday as the company tempered 2006 revenue and earnings expectations. At a current enterprise value of just over $400 million, you could pick up Playboy with just a couple of weeks of cashflow from your existing portfolio companies.
Who knows if you can turn the iconic adult-entertainment brand into a cash generating machine, but you sure can have fun trying. After you acquire Playboy, you should obviously relocate the Playboy Mansion to Omaha. If, at 80, Heff can still keep the young bunnies happy, imagine what you could do. And, just think how many shareholders you’d draw to the annual meeting. You’d go from attracting 20,000 “Oracle of Omaha” fanatics to 500,000…no problem. Finally, your business attire of choice could go from stuffy business suits to red silk bathrobes - what could be better than that!
